I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again … music and the power of association (good and bad) is such a powerful one. This week, I had one of those perfect moments. Despite the fact that BBC 6 Music is not the station it once was (and if you’ve listened to it for a while, you’ll know what I’m getting at), this week they … Continue reading Mrs Mackerel’s TFI Friday (Nov 12)
Following the release of her debut album Without Why, Rose Elinor Dougall has announced plans for her next single, Start/Stop/Synchro. Originally given a limited release in 2009, this new version has been given a brand spanking new mix and will be released by Scarlett Music in early 2011. She is also due to go into the studio in December to begin work on album number … Continue reading Rose Elinor Dougall – new single and album
Since their formation, Solar Temple Suicides have slowly been perfecting their own brand of drugged out, spacey haze. They preach long and tall effects-laiden, psychedelic mantras with unabashed space rock tendencies and hallucinatory walls of sound. We’ve already given you one track from their debut full-length album, Sentinels of the Heliosphere, and here is another, the rather magnificent Pale Blue Dot. The album will be released … Continue reading New track from Solar Temple Suicides
The Migrant’s album Travels in Lowland has been one of our unexpected treasures of 2010, a record of wonderful, pysch tinged folk that draws you in and envelops you in a warm cocoon of simply constructed and beautifully sung songs. Boston based production company Extraneous Noise do a lot of work producing video content for bands playing in the area, and thought we might be … Continue reading The Migrant – new video for Nothing But Clues
Two of the better (in our opinion) most-hyped-bands-of-2010 have just released new tracks. Husband and wife duo Tennis play a winsome style of indie pop that is very of the moment. Take Me Somewhere comes from their planned debut Cape Dory, due for release in early 2011. Visit their MySpace here. Download Tennis – Take Me Somewhere mp3 (from Cape Dory) Likewise Cloud Nothings self … Continue reading New from Tennis & Cloud Nothings
What Would Jesus Drive have released a new free mp3, Your Awful Kids, which is a little change in direction from last month’s The Girls Are In Charge EP (which is currently standing very near the pinnacle of Mr Popper’s top ten of 2010). The electro-punksters take a darker indie-pop edge, this song displays the band’s rockier influences and really shows they’ve got balls with … Continue reading New track from What Would Jesus Drive
The album Public Strain by the un-Googleable (if such a word exists) Women is one of those that has nagged away at us, slyly skulking around looking for ways to infiltrate our subconsciousness. On first, second, and subsequent listens it becomes a little bit more familiar, a little bit more impressive, a little bit more essential until suddenly you realise that it is an album … Continue reading New from Women
Well as if by magic as Mr Benn used to say…no sooner do we post a new track from the excellent Grass House than we also get a new track from their label mates The Sunderbans. Death Stalks The Forest is another top notch slice of classic UK indie – these boys really do know how to put a song together and this one maintains … Continue reading New from The Sunderbans
A while ago we posted about new band Grass House and their excellent debut EP Plough More Sky. In fact we said the lead track A Cockroach was a dark-hearted and sonic delight and so it was – proving to be one of our favourite songs of the year, and Joe’s bedtime track of choice…every single night. Now they have returned with an excellent new single … Continue reading New single from Grass House
MM faves Loch Lomond will be releasing a new album in early 2011. It will be called Little Me Will Start A Storm and is out via Tender Loving Empire. We saw them play by chance at SxSW in 2009, and were captivated by the lovely harmonies and the wonderful, sometimes, orchestral sound matched with often surreal or bizarre lyrical wordplay. Elephants & Little Girls … Continue reading Loch Lomond ready new album
