The Pharmacy’s charming blend of indie garage pop bliss has featured a few times on MM. The band’s latest release, the first since 2012’s Stoned & Alone, Spells was written in a cabin in Big Sur and recorded in the basement of a used car museum in downtown Tacoma, with each of its raw, psych-tinged tracks laid down live. The band have just offered up … Continue reading The Pharmacy – Anna Bella
Dameht is The Mad spelt backwards, appropriate enough for this trio of New York natives. Listen to The Greek, a most promising excursion into indie rock, with an anthemic undertone that is bursting to get out. . . Continue reading MM Shorts 580: Dameht
In honour of England’s apocalyptic, winner-takes-all style clash with Uruguay in Brazil kicking off about now, we have that rarest of treasures, a half-decent football song for you to listen to (and for our friends over the water, that is proper football – the one with the round ball). It comes from 3D Shark, a punky kind of gent from Belfast, winningly described as “like … Continue reading Introducing >>> 3D Shark
You may know The Promise for being 80s Manchester band, When In Rome’s lone US hit single (though it didn’t dent the top 40 in the UK). On Sturgill Simpson’s excellent new album, Metamodern Sounds In Country Music, the Kentucky born singer takes the song apart and puts it back together in a distinctly non-New Wave type way, making you believe that this is the way it was … Continue reading New Video: Sturgill Simpson – The Promise
Brooklyn quintet and MM regulars, Tyburn Saints have become known for their haunting, maudlin rock, and will be releasing a new EP With The Night In Our Eyes on July 15. The title track is about as upbeat as the band get, and you can stream it below. . Continue reading New EP from Tyburn Saints
Most Ghouls Agree is the second track from Truthers’ upcoming 7″ single – to be released on July 8th. Truthers have become known for their 50s and 60s style of shoegaze pop music laden with staccato guitar riffs and breezy, sing-along falsetto hooks – typically strung together in ominous discord. The new single begins with a simple, airy, and open feel that quickly fills out … Continue reading MM Shorts 579: Truthers
The Growlers took the phrase “Beach Goth” as an apt descriptor of their music. Sunburned and salty, that term perfectly describes their distinctive melding of reverb heavy surf guitar and Bakersfield-style honky tonk with ‘80s post-punk. This is especially true of Chinese Fountain, the band’s fifth full-length set to be released on September 23rd via Everloving Records. Eleven songs that finely hone their gypsy folk dirges and … Continue reading New Growlers Album
Here is another excellent track from Hyde & Beast. Keep Moving is the title track from their forthcoming second album, which can be pre-ordered from iTunes here. The glam rock influences remain to the fore, but the vocals sound like they come straight out of Laurel Canyon circa 1970 – it is a beguiling mix of styles! . Continue reading More From Hyde & Beast
