Another Track from A.C. Newman
We are looking forward to the new solo album, Shut Down The Streets, from the New Pornographer’s frontman A.C. Newman, which is due out on Fire Records on the 22nd October. The second track to get an airing from the record is the wonderfully titled, and wonderfully catchy, Encyclopedia Of Classic Takedowns – perhaps the closest in style and tempo to his previous work and also featuring … Continue reading Another Track from A.C. Guest Post: Sprat 2’s TFI Friday (21st Sept)
Mrs Mackerel has decided to take a short sabbatical and invite some friends, relatives and countrywomen to takeover her Friday night post, a Friday routine as regular in this household as a G&T with lime, or pizza Margherita for the sprats. And a sprat it is, that takes control of the keyboard in this first week. So it is with great honour that I welcome … Continue reading Guest Post: Sprat 2’s TFI Friday (21st Sept)

RTB2 Prep Release Of New Album 2
Displaying manic urgency borrowed from Detroit punk, rhythmic precision with Memphis roots, and sprawling art-rock aspirations that span prog, ambient and even math rock, RTB2’s love of, and immersion in, all of those traditions is surpassed only by their apparent determination to take a sledgehammer to every last one of them. New album, the simply named 2, will be released on 30th October and taster track, … Continue reading RTB2 Prep Release Of New Album 2
New From Tweak Bird
It seems to us that Tweak Bird have always been somewhat under appreciated compared with the plaudits heaped upon other bands like White Denim and Tame Impala. Not that those two bands aren’t fully deserving of the acclaim – they are. Its just that we think some of those plaudits and that buzz should be coming the way of this duo from Los Angeles by-the-way-of Southern … Continue reading New From Tweak Bird
MM Shorts 227: New Bat For Lashes Single
Here is the new Bat For Lashes single, All Your Gold, that we caught a first play on Radio 6 last night. Nice! It is the second single taken from The Haunted Man, released on 15th October . a Continue reading MM Shorts 227: New Bat For Lashes Single
Mad Mackerel Recommends…Scott & Charlene’s Wedding
As long past Neighbours fans, just the name Scott & Charlene’s Wedding is enough to evoke memories of life on the dole, cashing a giro and buying cheap white wine to accompany Madge and Harold’s latest shenanigans. So, all in all, we couldn’t fail to be seduced by Craig Dermody’s artistic moniker, and news of the release of Para Vista Social Club (named for the Adelaide suburb … Continue reading Mad Mackerel Recommends…Scott & Charlene’s Wedding
