Along with Owls and Wolves of various kinds, I think Whales must be one of the most popular animals to turn up in band names. The Ancient Whales are the latest and most certainly one of the better ones if their mix of melodic garage rock and hazy psychedelia is anything to go by. Try this track, Everyone from their new studio EP Birthing via Owlphabet … Continue reading Introducing >>> Ancient Whales
Sonic carnage is indeed an appropriate way to describe the raw and raucous punk inflected garage rock of The Hussy. They memorably describe it as “bash-em-up-spit-em-out garage-trash for short attention spans“. Their new album is Weed Seizure out on March 20th via Tic Tac Totally and follows the release of their long sold-out debut Cement Tomb Mind Control. Like a flick-knife in a crowded flophouse … Continue reading Sonic Carnage From The Hussy
The Concubines take their cue from the kind of dark-hearted indie of Nick Cave or The Horrors and forthcoming debut single, appropriately titled Darkness has the classic gothic overtones of its 80s heyday calling to mind the orchestral grandeur of Echo & The Bunnymen and the pomp and ceremony of The Mission. The single will be released on a limited edition vinyl run of 100 via … Continue reading Introducing >>> Concubines
Psych-popsters Dinosaur Feathers have unveiled Beatcha, the first track from sophomore album Whistle Tips, out on April 10th via Ernest Jenning. Now joined by drummer Nick Brooks, the band sound more forceful and assured than previously, giving them satisfyingly crunchy guitars and an altogether noisier outlook. Fortunately they haven’t sacrificed any of their infectious groove and jangle, nor any of their experimental edge that marked … Continue reading New Track From Dinosaur Feathers
The short film Elsewhere, by Mathy & Fran, is formed around a collection of songs by Kurt Vile, Lucky Dragons, High Places and Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti. Set in London, two lovers-on-the-run head into the middle of nowhere, armed only with strange trinkets and a silver boom box. It is a story of love, destruction and the act of letting go, starring Jessica Raine (Call The Midwife, The Woman In Black) and Aneurin Barnard (We’ll … Continue reading Elsewhere – Short Film

Stripped back, brother and sister two piece White Mystery know how to party with the best of them. The heartfelt and authentic experimental blues of Florida’s The Owsley Brothers were one of our favourite discoveries of last year and we have been eagerly anticipating their debut album Cobalt, which is due out on April 3rd.
