Half Past Sun have been busy releasing a series of free digital EPs and songs via their website, which are well worth checking out. It is a swirling, kaleidoscopic mix of psychedelia, indie rock and electronica with a naggingly insistent edge that burrows in through your ears and then settles in your brain with no intention of leaving anytime soon. Fifth instalment of A Never Ending … Continue reading Introducing…Half Past Sun
Girlfriends hail from Boston and have just released their latest 7″ via Black Bell Records titled Cave Kids and backed with Eat Around The Bad Parts. The single is simply one of the best slabs of psych infused, rumbling, garage rock we’ve heard in a good long while and has been soundtracking much of the last few days for us. The lyrics tick all the … Continue reading Girlfriends Release Cave Kids 7″
The Sugarplum Fairies are an indie pop duo from Vienna that now calls Los Angeles home. Somewhere between Hapsburg and Honkytonk, swaying palm trees and swirling dark espresso, airy minimalism and waltzing americana, the Fairies play melancholic songs on sparkling instruments. Think of an evening gown captured in Kodachrome. Gustav Klimt on Route 66. This is music for when you’ve been up all night but … Continue reading New Album from The Sugarplum Fairies
We’re more or less packed. 300 miles. I’m feeling tetchy – better make it before the sea surrounds us. Smile and wave, smile and wave. Will it be alright on the night? It’s too late to turn back, Here we go. Lindisfarne, oh no. (A Middle Brother inspired refrain to the tune of Portland – I realise you may not sing this tune with the … Continue reading Mrs Mackerel’s TFI Friday (8th April)
We were sent this track randomly from someone saying they thought we’d like it. And like it we did. It is by a band called Parlours and while there isn’t a great deal of information available about them, we did find this on their website. Hailing from the heart of the midwest, Parlours is one of the only female-fronted acts presently in Des Moines. Parlours’ … Continue reading Introducing…Parlours

Races (formerly known as Black Jesus) formed in late 2009 after singer/songwriter Wade Ryff escaped the sweaty grips of multiple bands, the San Fernando Valley and, so the story goes, a real life witch. First formed as an impromptu group assembled for a one-off performance, the band was a haphazard collection of musicians who had befriended one-another over years of playing music. Now however, the … Continue reading Introducing…Races
The Black Hand Gang hail from urban Scotland, but their hearts would seem to be just as firmly ensconced in the America of backwood swamps and dusty plains that call to mind some of the greats like Creedence Clearwater Revival and Neil Young. Put these influences together and you get soaring passion and raw emotion anchored by some down-to-earth Glasgow grit. The songs from their self-titled … Continue reading Introducing…The Black Hand Gang
