Got this in our inbox with no information. Nor can we find anything out about Wade Williamson anywhere, no MySpace, records for sale, nothing. Irrespective, we’re loving this foot stomping, folk protest in the vein of William Elliott Whitmore, Frank Turner or even any one of those sixties dudes trying to stop the Vietnam war. Watch the video, then get the song below. If you … Continue reading Introducing…Wade Williamson
Like Iowa from our earlier post today, My Disco hail from Melbourne. Like Iowa, My Disco like to shred their sound into a dark, pummelling tribal noise. There is certainly no nod to the glitter balls, falsetto vocals or anything else we would associate with disco…. Their new album (their third) Little Joy will get a worldwide release early in 2011, and the tracks we’ve … Continue reading Mad Mackerel Recommends…My Disco
It seems appropriate on the first day of the new Ashes series to start the day with a butt-kicking band from down under. And despite the geographical name, Iowa, for it is they, hail from the fertile breeding grounds of Melbourne’s alternative music scene. Seemingly begat from the loins of sonic forefathers like J&MC, Sonic Youth, or even Mrs M’s old favourites Ride – they easily and … Continue reading Introducing…Iowa
We posted recently here about the new Giant Sand album. It is a cracker – 25 years on and Howe Gelb can still mix it with the best and come out on top. It was released yesterday in the US and should be available from all half decent retailers on and offline. To celebrate here is a second track from the album. This one, Ride the Rail … Continue reading New Giant Sand Album Released

Air Waves debut LP is titled Dungeon Dots and is being released through Underwater Peoples on November 30th. Nicole Schneit wrote all the songs and plays guitar throughout the album. Her soft, clear voice careens across walking bass lines, big cymbals and brassy guitars and the songs tread a confident, but careful path from warm and inviting to a more bittersweet and even acidic. While … Continue reading Mad Mackerel Recommends…Air Waves

Psychedelic space-rock stalwarts Bardo Pond have put out many LPs, most of them named after hallucinogens that make you throw up all night and see things – which was kind of them. Explicitly drug-inspired — their titles were filled with obscure references to psychedelics — they favored lengthy, deliberate sound explorations filled with all the hallmarks of modern-day space rock: droning guitars, thick distortion, feedback, reverb, … Continue reading Mad Mackerel Recommends…Bardo Pond
