New Album From Lonesome Wyatt & The Holy Spooks

We included Lonesome Wyatt & The Holy Spooks on our recent Halloween playlist and subsequently discovered a new album had been released just last week. Titled Heartsick, and recorded in a damp Wisconsin basement, it is another foray into their idiosyncratic world of doom laden, southern gothic folk and country. Lonesome Wyatt is one half of another dark country duo (Those Poor Bastards) so perhaps … Continue reading New Album From Lonesome Wyatt & The Holy Spooks

Mad Mackerel Recommends…Vagabondage

Vagabondage is a Bay Area, California based folk-punk band that was born over nachos and wine on a tiny stage in an empty theater in San Francisco’s Mission District. They have been getting people up on their feet, yelling, drinking and singing along to their songs since 2008. Their new album was conceived at San Francisco’s Secret Studios over a bottle of cheap bourbon – … Continue reading Mad Mackerel Recommends…Vagabondage

Mad Mackerel Recommends…New London Fire

New London Fire’s third album The Dirt The Blood The Faith is inspired by the pride we can find in despair. With the deck stacked hopelessly against the labourers who built his country, Dave Debiak’s richly-crafted characters rise up time and again to challenge a system that will take everything for the sake of profit. The result is that The Dirt The Blood The Faith is … Continue reading Mad Mackerel Recommends…New London Fire

MM Shorts 38: Levee Town

Time for some old fashioned blues. The spirit of Slim Harpo inhabits the insistent and rollicking boogie of Levee Town’s Show Them Whatcha Got, with appropriate, “Shake it for me baby” lyrics and a dynamic guitar and drums breakdown. From their album Pages of Paperwork, released last month and available to buy from CD baby here. Download Levee Town – Show Them Whatcha Got mp3 (from Pages … Continue reading MM Shorts 38: Levee Town

Debut Album From The Birthday Suit

Whilst Idlewild have been on hiatus, guitarist / songwriter Rod Jones has been busy with his solo project The Birthday Suit. Their debut album, The Eleventh Hour, came out just last week. The album is a return to the noisy pop moments that originally established him so firmly in the UK music scene. Tracks like Do You Ever? and On My Own hark back to … Continue reading Debut Album From The Birthday Suit

Introducing…Whitehorse

Six Shooter Records’ Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet tie the musical knot with the debut of their new band, Whitehorse, marrying their talent and chemistry on stage as a smoldering duo. Gutsy and resolute in their pursuits of sound and substance, Luke and Melissa’s fusion of the personal and professional brings to mind the road-tested romance of Johnny and June. We’re latecomers to their self-titled … Continue reading Introducing…Whitehorse

Introducing…Black Creek

Black Creek emerged from the swamps of the Weston Creek Delta a broken band with little memory of how they got there and the unmistakable dredge that is a hangover. Armed with tales only a weathered sea fearing man would find comforting, Black Creek are a band that will seduce your body and steal your soul. Have a listen to the dirty country rock that … Continue reading Introducing…Black Creek

The Low Anthem are a staple favourite here at MM and their stunning performance at last year’s End of the Road Festival to a rapt and enthralled crowd on the lovely Garden Stage will remain one of our favourite live shows ever. New Wounded Lion Album

We’ve long enjoyed LA’s Wounded Lion and their unique yet completely compelling take on classic Garage rock. In fact it has been more than a year since we posted anything from them, but new track Roman Values from forthcoming album IVXLCDM (released this coming week) proves it has been more than worth the wait. It is two and a half minutes of insane garage punk that is … Continue reading New Wounded Lion Album
