Our introduction to Chris Staples came via Dark Side Of The Moon (not a cover of the Pink Floyd classic, but instead an interpretation of it). It was a standout track from his excellent album from last year, American Soft, which in turn has become a long established fave here at MM Towers.

He has now followed this up with a brand new EP on Barsuk Records titled Cheap Shades. It is five more tracks of elegant, stripped back Americana that reveals the rich storytelling at its heart, and even includes a cover of Built To Spill’s Center Of The Universe.

Have a listen to the wonderful title track.

Time for our ad-hoc Friday collection of excellent new (and some not quite so new) videos. From the beautiful and poignant (Courtney Barnett, Chris Staples, Wilder Daze) to the pulsing animation of Slaves pummelling punk, via the humour of Weird Womb and Abjects.

And plenty more besides…
