Saturday Means Six Of The Best!

We’re still catching up on a huge backlog of e-mails and submissions since our excursion in search of the sun. Here then is a quick round-up of some notable and noteworthy releases.

We have skate-punks Fidlar and their latest homage to the joys of alcohol with the two and a half minutes of Cheap Beer and we have Brooklyn’s latest buzz band (justified for once), INDYNS who deal in fast paced rock ballads, that are accentuated with an array of synths and catchy choruses. Their latest single is the rousing Fields Lie Fallow.

Slowing up and smoothing things over are our favourite folk troubadour from the Faroe Islands Teitur who is back with a new EP (Four Songs) and a US tour. The excellently named Jailhouse Gumbo Jones comes from it and more than lives up to its name. We also have the sweet harmonies of Native Roses and their second single Shadows which is a gorgeous slice of introspective folk.

The six minute long Sheltering Sky comes from a digital and cassette only release titled Mood Music from a promising new female garage pop duo Upside Drown – anyone with Best Coast or Grass Widow tunes in their collection will find much to enjoy with this (buy here). And lastly we have another taste of the experimental sonics and ambient Americana of Balmorhea who have made a second track, the epic slow burn of Days, available from forthcoming album Stranger.
