It’s been a week of surprises. Surprising amount of alcohol consumed last weekend. Surprisingly bad hangover for MM. (Well shouldn’t have surprised him, really.) An unexpected travelling companion to Isla – nice surprise. Youngest sprat had a birthday – felt surprisingly emotional about the passing of time.

Social misfit with the big red face reprises her role as Nurse Ratched by threatening me with a large jug of juice and a few choice words in front of the younger sprats – BIG surprise.  One flat tyre and three bald ones – ouch, unexpectedly expensive.  Out of the blue gesture of conciliation – pleasant surprise. And so on.

That TFI Friday arrives late on Saturday night – really, that should be no surprise to anyone by now.

Reclaim Sundays: be with the ones you love.

Over and out.

I was happily singing along with this fine ditty by Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit: “One of my friends has taken her in and given her codeine.” Fantastic: what a line. And what a bloody great honky tonk country, stormingly good song it is. If someone took me in and gave me codeine, I’d be crying. I was prescribed codeine a few years ago for a prolapsed disc in my neck, and cry I did. And cry. And cry. Until I stopped taking codeine. There’s a moral in there somewhere.
