Mad Mackerel Recommends…Lanterns On The Lake

Lanterns On The Lake are another band that we caught by chance at the End of the Road Festival. Since then we’ve let their cinematic mix of folk and orchestral pop slowly seep into our consciousness in the way the sea slowly overwhelms a sandcastle on the beach.

A six piece band from Newcastle on Tyne, they have the ability to create lush poetic soundscapes that are as evocative as they are poignant, while retaining an experimental edge that stops them from ever becoming predictable.

Their captivating show at the End of the Road was prematurely ended by a power cut and the audience disappointment was palpable – they then sold every CD they’d brought with them in double quick time leaving lots more folk even more disappointed.
