Having posted our ten favourite covers of the year yesterday, we completely omitted this one, which would easily have gatecrashed the top three.

It is Laura Marling’s wonderful cover of Neil Young’s The Needle And The Damage Done, which is the b-side to her latest, limited edition vinyl single produced by Jack White.
