Mrs Mackerel’s TFI Friday (4th Feb)

Friday is here once again; a little late perhaps after a particularly lovely Skype with the Swiss outpost.

Despite the loose remit being to concentrate on the old, this week I’ve been drawn to the new. It’s a bit like life really: we may look back and reflect on what’s gone past. But so it goes, do we move on? Do we learn anything new at all? Is it all just rewind and replay?

I sometimes think that I seek authentication of emotions and situations through music. I’m sure I’m not alone. It certainly helps.

So what’s scorching on my brain this week. In the office of the day job we refer them to as top ten contenders. It’s an early call but Civilian by Wye Oak (or perhaps why-aye oak to me) (“I am nothing without pretend/I know my faults”) and Song That Sorrow Sings by The Sand Band (“My love for you is always real/ I miss the way you make me feel”). Both are particularly haunting.

I did promise a TFI run by song lyrics?  I’ve snuck a few others in for good measure – can you see? Perhaps I got nothing to say I ain’t said before. We keep our questions to ourselves. There’s dignity in restraint sometimes.

It’s a family affair this week; I’m still missing a pocket; still waters run deep and all that. And I desperately want to see the Cave Singers live.

A very cryptic Friday to you.

Download Three Sisters by The Veils. Please don’t burn the middle bit (already bit charred) but I suggest the other two bits be at least lightly grilled.
