Hypocrite in a Hippy Crypt is a musical project spawned from craziness, pick-me-ups, and late nights. The result is an 11 track album about crazy people, oceans, and murder. Sounds good to us!
Created by a secretive and somewhat reclusive 19 year old Bloomington resident, most of the songs were written in his basement and bedroom in the late hours of the night. The style has been described as a lo-fi pop indie sound with a dash of folk – the songs are personal, whimsical sometimes, slyly sinister at others, lyrically sharp, and understandably have drawn comparisons to both John Lennon and Syd Barrett.
With a collection of over 300 songs, the album Tweaker in the Park was recorded and was picked up by Bloomington founded label Gulcher Records (Kurt Viles first label).
Take a listen to the rather marvellous The Town Crazies, and check out his Bandcamp page here for a few more tracks. Order the full CD here.
