Mrs Mackerel’s TFI Friday (20th April)

Mrs Mackerel's TFI Friday (20th April).

I hear the train a comin’, it’s rolling round the bend… This term’s inaugural school journey saw the introduction of Johnny Cash week, in my attempt to give the sprats an all-round musical education. We’ll spin the bottle and see where it lands next week – everyone a winner!

Frankly, not much to laugh about this week. Little Liberty and HP still marooned in hospital; continual rain; mechanical failure; more rain; back to school/work/routine; sugar withdrawal symptoms from excessive Easter egg consumption, coupled with arrival of “small” egg shaped belly to match; some hail stones and a bit more rain.

Cars are crap and costly, particularly mine. The sprats have joined me in a highly impractical bid for a something smaller (think mini) and car shaped (clubman), so we can bounce around the leafy roads like I used to many years ago. The fact that there would be no room for MM means we will have to potentially tie him to the roof or make him run behind. Not with those knees, perhaps.

Some things we do well, some things we do well enough. Writing as a day job can be (and frequently is) a demoralising process. Let’s see if I’m any better on the nightshift.

The small boot cupboard, otherwise known as my office, has at last come under the kosh and the slow process of clearing has begun. I think there’s some hidden metaphor in there for mind and soul and I fully expect the terminal fog to lift in the coming weeks. If I feel like I gave it my best shot, put my whole heart into it, then I won’t die wondering will I?

A misty morning does not always signify a cloudy day. But coming from Sunderland, I’ve always got one eye out for a downpour.

I’ll place 30 pieces of silver on an away win please.

Toot, toot!

So in love with my new sidebar and feeling all-powerful yet not all-knowing and never all-seeing – is this right?

I’m also just a little bit in love with Richard Hawley and his new song Leave Your Body Behind You, from his forthcoming album, Standing At The Sky’s Edge, due out in a few weeks. Quite different, little bit psychedelic, little bit brilliant. BJH is on Jools and I finally remembered (or rather Googled) the lyrics that had been spinning around my head for a couple of months, Another Day, so it seems.
