Championship Fighter is the opening track from Lilly Hiatt & The Dropped Ponies forthcoming album Let Down, due out on the 23rd October via Normaltown Records.

With a voice as pure and clear as a mountain stream tumbling down a hillside, and lyrics that give a new definition to sharp and incisive, the combination is a heady one. The roots of the record are in classic Country, but fingers creep out knowingly to swoop and accumulate some tasty scraps from folk, from rock’n’roll and from elsewhere, giving this ten song collection a more diverse and restless feel than a purely Nashville inspired record. It works perfectly.

This is one of the more obviously traditional tunes on the record, a country-folk song of sweetly strummed acoustics and mournful twang. Wonderful stuff.
