The term off-kilter is often overused when describing singer-songwriters and other folk inclined musicians. However, for Algernon Doll it is an adjective that fits perfectly.
The project of Ewan Grant and documenting a difficult year of mentally debilitating toils of extreme anxiety disorder and bipolar, the resulting record, Camomile is a thing of beauty – lavish, intense and splendid, but underpinned with a creeping sense of anxiety and discontent.
Make no mistake some of the tracks are not easy, treading as they do, a path of paranoia and loneliness – there are demons being wrestled with here. However, it is Algernon Doll’s unique, unsparing approach to doing so that sets the record apart and yes, makes off-kilter a perfect description (for once).
Grab yourself Spiral Sounds, the first track to be released from the album. Camomile is released on 26th November via Newtown Products.
