Debut Album From Rare Monk

Portland, Oregon’s Rare Monk have a sound that is both familiar and distinctly their own. With a slew of brand new tracks, Sleep/Attack is their first long player (out 26th February) and a follow up to their excellent Death by Proxy EP (see our original post here).

It’s an upbeat and ambitious album that takes inspiration from such diverse concepts as the enormity of the universe to the danger of imbuing dreams with too much power. Influences range from the obvious (Modest Mouse, Phoenix) to the less immediate and more experimental end of the musical spectrum. The end results are songs that are filled as much with surprises as they are with hooks. Thrilling stuff.

Try the funky, slow burn of Underground, the soaring Mama Bear and the one-way staccato riffola of Drumhead.
