Almost exactly a year ago, we introduced Leeds based psych-rock band Formes as a band to watch. Now a three-piece, they are gearing up for the release of new tune Inside I’ve Flown, which certainly makes good on that early promise – it would appear that the intervening 12 months have not been wasted. It is available as a free download until its official release … Continue reading New From Formes
Vancouver punk rockers White Lung will release a new 7″, Blow It South backed with Down With You. The A side is a full-on, high octane shredder hewn from the classic vein of short, sharp punk shocks, whilst the B side somehow ratchets up the needle a little more and is, if anything, even more assertive! It is out on the 28th October (digital) with a … Continue reading MM Shorts 463: White Lung 7″
Having recently waxed lyrical about Sleepy Sun’s 7″ single of gargantuan, heavy, garage psych 11.32, which saw a release last week, we now have a stream of the equally good, if more melodic and less pulverising b-side, The Lane. Have a listen below. Buy the single here. Continue reading Stream Sleepy Sun’s The Lane
Next Monday will see the release of A Sun Full And Drowning, the debut long-player from long-standing MM faves Grass House. Featuring ten tracks, the album includes new versions of the bands critically acclaimed and sold out singles Spinning As We Turn (one of our favourite tracks of the year), And Now For The Wild and the recent I Was A Streetlight, as well as … Continue reading Grass House Debut Album
We are pleased to report the spirit of rock ‘n roll is exhumed, drenched in heavy blues riffs, and smeared with earthy grit by Brooklyn trio Graveyard Lovers. On latest release Dreamers, essences of Jack White, The Black Keys and Band of Skulls can be heard, but the whole is closer to a Louisiana-blues-infused grunge-rock for a modern age. Mighty fine it is too – we have three … Continue reading Introducing >>> Graveyard Lovers

See them live: Mon Dec 9 Brighton Audio Tue Dec 10 London Scala w/ kandodo Wed Dec 11 Leeds Brudenell Social … Continue reading MM Shorts 462: Wooden Shjips
Back in the Spring we posted about Steady Sun’s lovely blend of gentle psychedelia and pastoral folk. Now they have given us a new track, Garden Path Song, which builds considerably on the promise of their debut album Good Evening. Kicking off with a slow and slightly ominous groove it soon breaks out into something far more infectious taking with it a little reverb, some synths … Continue reading More From Steady Sun
No less than four new videos for you to immerse yourself in this morning. We have Besnard Lakes depicting the life of a man struggling to retain his grip on reality in Colour Yr Lights In and from Swearin’ we have their bedroom rehearsal video for Dust In The Gold Sack. Fuzzy, blissed out indie rockers Forest have released a new video for lead single Coaster … Continue reading Videos of the Day: Besnard Lakes || Swearin’ || Forest || Pyyramids
Ten years ago today Elliott Smith died. For years I resisted listening to his music. I mean properly listening, and it was only this year that I decided to stop being so foolishly stubborn and try again. Even then it took Mrs M to put me straight and make me persist. I’m glad I did. Continue reading Elliott Smith
We have been utterly entranced by Agnes Obel’s session on Radio 6 today. A Danish singer-songwriter possessed of the most affecting and haunting voice, we missed her 2010 debut release Philharmonics completely, and we have only just discovered the follow-up Aventine that was released at the end of September. It is a record conceived for the angels. Strings and piano are much to the fore, … Continue reading Mad Mackerel Recommends…Agnes Obel
