Marissa Nadler and Angel Olsen have combined again to absolutely stunning effect on this cover of the Mickey Newbury song Frisco Depot. You won’t hear much that is more beautiful than this… Continue reading Marissa Nadler & Angel Olsen Cover Frisco Depot
Hemlock Shaw describes his sound as “creepy, fucked up pop music”. Here is She In The Backyard, a song apparently based halfheartedly on the plot of the film Practical Magic. Go ahead, creep yourself out. Continue reading MM Shorts 342: Hemlock Shaw
A gentler Thee Oh Sees anyone? A more reflective Ty Segall? Yes? Try Owl Fly South, a more than promising four-piece garage/psych/pop outfit from UCLA. This is their new song Blink (Incandescent Days). Download Owl Fly South – Blink (Incandescent Days) mp3 (from Blink/Castle) Continue reading MM Shorts 341: Owl Fly South
This is something else we’re way too late on, but still something else that is too good not to share… We are big fans of Well Hung Heart’s and their idea for a brand new TV show Made In 48 is a brilliant one. The concept of the show is that Well Hung Heart team up with other musicians and have to write, record, conceptualise, … Continue reading Check Out Well Hung Heart’s TV Show
This has been up on many blogs already, but we figured one more re-post wouldn’t hurt. The following is reproduced from Graveface Records Soundcloud page and is about the Jason Molina Tribute Album to raise funds for his family. From William Schaff: “Back in January of this year, I received a message from a friend of Jason’s, Tara Samaha. Like so many of us were, … Continue reading Jason Molina Tribute Album – Weary Engine Blues
Watch Broken Anchor’s video for Never Leave Me Alone which is one of our favourite songs of the moment. We also have The Joy Formidable’s unusually shot live video for Little Blimp filmed entirely from a GoPro cam attached to the neck of Ritzy’s guitar at different live shows including SXSW, and their recent tourmates We Are Animal’s video for Royal Wolf. And to finish … Continue reading Videos of the Day: Broken Anchor || The Joy Formidable || We Are Animal || Dubl Handi
Any band that earns comparisons to Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized usually gets some ear-time at MM, and tho’ we’re often disappointed, this time Delta Mainline may just be the real deal. However, this is not simply the work of slavish copycat merchants nor is it your common or garden druggy psychedelia. For while there are plenty of epic sonic soundscapes in evidence, there are also subtler … Continue reading Introducing >>> Delta Mainline
The meandering piano lines and ethereal sounds of Dark Dark Dark’s latest album Who Needs Who, are a joy to listen to, and now the band has announced three brand new tracks released especially for Record Store Day in the UK. Each track is a band favourite held back for a special occasion, these are songs from the Who Needs Who recording sessions deemed worthy … Continue reading Dark Dark Dark Announce Record Store Day 10″
We have previously featured The Graveyard Kids on MM, and by coincidence (the newly reformed) God Tiny contains all the members of that band. They have put up a brand new track, Fearless, on a pay-what-you-like deal on their Bandcamp page and while it is by their own admission a “rough self-produced” single, it oozes primal garage rock and psych-blues creds in a way that … Continue reading MM Shorts 340: God Tiny
We’re still rounding up all those new releases, new tunes, good tunes, and more to keep your day as varied and joyous as ours…Ha! And so we have another ‘cop-out” post prompted by another fearsome backlog, which has once again kickstarted our anxiety over (a) failing to keep up, and (b) failing to give the appropriate time and text that these releases deserve and (c) … Continue reading More Rounding Up To Be Done
