Just last Saturday we featured Deep Time as our Video of the Day post, with their spooky song Clouds from their self-titled debut album. The album is now officially on release and the duo have made a second cut from the album available for free download. This is Homebody, another densely melodic slice of restlessly minimalist indie pop. Theirs is a sound that manages to … Continue reading MM Shorts 189: Another From Deep Time
Chicago new-wave quartet California Wives has announced the release of its debut Art History LP, out on 4th September via Vagrant. It follows the band’s 2010 EP Affair, which won over both local and national press. The first taster is the taut, quivering Marianne driven along by big guitars and propulsive percussion and with a nod to the 80s indie rock scene with the catchy chorus and … Continue reading Debut Album From California Wives
A little over a year ago Mrs Mackerel posted on TFI Friday, a track from White Wires lovingly titled Your Mother Says You’re Ugly, which came from their album WWII. It was a gloriously simple punk-rock song, which we mean in the best possible way. Now they’re back with a new album, titled, of course, WWIII, and a new track to give away. All Night Long … Continue reading New Album From White Wires
Hello Wheels are a four-piece hailing from Austin, Texas and describe themselves as a ‘stomp-folk’ band. Their latest release is the EP Baby John The Fox, which does boast some rather fetching cover art. Grab yourself a taste with a free download of Matches And Wood, a fine example of their craft, melding traditional instruments and a foot-tapping chorus into one dynamic harmony driven whole. Get … Continue reading MM Shorts 188: Hello Wheels
We Are Augustines | O2 Academy, Oxford | 5 July 2012 Where do you start? This wasn’t just a gig; it was a whole lot more than that. For one thing, there were four other support acts, one of whom we missed, one of whom I really wish we had missed, one that I enjoyed, and one that sort of just washed over me. For … Continue reading Mrs Mackerel Reviews We Are Augustines
Hot on the heels of Middle Brother and Diamond Rugs, comes Denver, the latest Americana ‘supergroup’ collaboration – this time between members of the wonderful Blitzen Trapper and Alela Diane’s Wild Divine. The Way It Is is the first song to be released from their forthcoming self-titled debut album, and a better slow-burn of dusty, country rock you’ll be hard pressed to find this side of Laurel … Continue reading MM Shorts 187: Denver
Although we now have a regular Video of the Day post on Mad Mackerel, we still can’t keep up with all that we’re being sent and here are a few more of the videos we would like to have featured well before now. Face-melting UK four piece Trails are making quite a name and quite a noise for themselves. Latest video is for new track Is … Continue reading Time For Another Video Round Up…
