The Creepy Crawlies will release their album Get Buried on April 10th. It is a sparkling, shimmering collection of catchy indie pop on the one hand and a spiky wall of sound on the other – a bit like a snowball packed with razorblades. Grab the title track and hear for yourself. Download The Creepy Crawlies – Get Buried mp3 (from Get Buried) Continue reading MM Shorts 96: Get Buried
Just over a year ago we posted about the “twisted carnival folk” of Crystal Bright & The Silver Hands and so now, 13 months on, we are pleased to bring news of the release of second album Muses & Bones. It will be released on March 27th. Taster track is the startling Especially Your Mother, vocals swoop and whisper while the melody gallops along on … Continue reading Crystal Bright & The Silver Hands Prep Muses & Bones
We love the idosyncratic, perverse folk ramblings of Benjamin Shaw and his arsenic laced pathos. It is truly a unique delight. The Birds Chirp & The Sun Shines is the second single from his excellent debut album There’s Always Hope, There’s Always Cabernet. The song is perhaps one of the sonically lighter moments on the record but sees him threatening to “track him down, make him … Continue reading New Single From Benjamin Shaw
It’s Valentines Day. Love it or hate it, you can’t deny it. I will, of course, effortlessly be showing Mrs M just what a lucky catch I was. And for the rest of you, by way of a massively contrived link, let us cover you with love too. Here is a tasty little mix of covers we’ve picked up to follow on from yesterday’s Bad … Continue reading It’s Valentines Day…
Winter is the first taste from the forthcoming Maps & Atlases record Beware And Be Grateful. It is typically tight and dense, but still catchy indie-pop and according to the band, “The song contrasts memory and the perspective of winter as a season of possibility and creativity with the bleak, stillness of winter nights in the Midwest.” The album will be available via FatCat from … Continue reading MM Shorts 95: Maps & Atlases

Since the indefinite hiatus / demise of Wolf Parade, Spencer Krug has been concentrating on new project Moonface. Last year saw the release of Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I’d Hoped and he has now announced a follow up that has been recorded with Finnish band Siinai called With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery. This is the first taste from the album and it is a stormer – all … Continue reading New From Moonface
Bang on the money this week: gin in hand, more snow outside, Andy Williams is playing… You know that feeling (maybe?) that you just want something to dance to that your Dad used to play on vinyl when you were small… I still have the moves, Pops: Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, followed by a bit of Moon River. Anyway, enough of that. You … Continue reading Mrs Mackerel’s TFI Friday (10th February)
