Mad Mackerel Recommends >>> Sunflowers

Not sure what it is about southern Europe at the moment, but hot on the heels of our belated discovery of Italy’s brilliant Bee Bee Sea, we have Portugal’s Sunflowers. They have an album coming out on February 9th, titled Castle Spell and the two tracks we have for you are just about as good as it gets in terms of full-on, punked-up, psych-rock riffola. New Single From The Lovely Eggs

Marvellous northern psych-punk duo The Lovely Eggs have shared another cracking (no pun intended) new single from forthcoming long player This Is Eggland. Wiggy Giggy takes us on a cosmic odyssey where “normal” life and always “striving for more” meet something more magical! Where the grass is not always greener whatever side you look from. Dead Meadow – Keep Your Head

Dead Meadow will be releasing a new album, The Nothing They Need  on 30th March in the UK. They have just shared their first single, Keep Your Head, which perfectly exemplifies the band’s unique marriage of Sabbath riffs, dreamy layers of guitar-fuzz bliss, and singer Jason Simon’s melodic croon. MIEN – Black Habit

Comprised of The Black Angel’s Alex Maas, The Horror’s Tom Furse, Elephant Stone’s Rishi Dhir and The Earlies’ John-Mark Lapham, MIEN have announced their self-titled debut album will be released on Friday 6th April via Rocket Recordings.  It is a record that finds equal room for radiant groove-based propulsion and ambient dreamscapes alike – as comfortable with the murky hallucinogenic voyage of You Dreamt as the powerful widescreen sweep of (I’m Tired Of) Western Shouting. MIEN … Continue reading MIEN – Black Habit

The Prefab Messiahs – Psychsploitation Today

Originally together from 1981-1983, self-proclaimed micro-legendary weirdoz The Prefab Messiahs followed a unique post-punk musical trajectory through the burgeoning-yet-insular Wormtown (Worcester, MA) underground. Aside from the 1983 cassette Flex Your Mind, though, no recorded material was available from them until 1998’s Devolver CD-R – an anthology of their recordings from the early ’80s. Fast-forward three decades later to the official remastered release of Devolver via Burger Records, followed by … Continue reading The Prefab Messiahs – Psychsploitation Today

MM Shorts 993: Wooing

Ba Da Bing are releasing Daydream Time Machine, the first EP from Brooklyn’s Wooing. Led by Rachel Trachtenburg (of Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, Supercute!) the trio play a rough hewn stripped down rock that evokes the charisma of The Breeders by way of Syd Barrett. Lead single, In Colour, displays the vintage influences that come into play: the urgency of underground 90s rock meets the psychedelic sounds … Continue reading MM Shorts 993: Wooing
