The short psychological thriller, Are You Okay, was written by the inimitable Bret Easton Ellis and features the single of the same name by Dum Dum Girls.

Watch it here.

Videos of the Day

Sunday morning videos for you from The Spook School, a new track and video from The Dum Dum Girls, and from T. Hardy Morris, the final video from his Audition Tapes From Places In Peril series. It is a performance of the song Quit Diggin’, filmed at St. Eom’s Pasaquan, an internationally acclaimed visionary art site consisting of six major structures – the oldest a redesigned 1885 farmhouse – painted concrete sculptures, and miles of painted masonry concrete walls.

Lastly we have The Caged Animals surreal adventures of a 90s Goth-girl in the video for their track The Sound Of Thunder.

Video Catch-Up.

As well as our regular Video of the Day posts, these vids have also caught our attention recently, and given the backlog we have, we thought it was time for a big round up of these as well. So here goes.

Mean Creek’s video for Young & Wild perfectly captures the innocence, the excitement and the carefree joy of youthful moments reflected in the song’s message.

FOE’s new single is Black Lodge which is named after the fictional setting featured in Lynch’s infamous TV series Twin Peaks, and demonstrates rather well her unique take on story telling that clashes childlike innocence with the impending sense of the unknown.

The video for the propulsive, jittery indie rock of Hey! For Horses by The Rest features puppet sex and murderous horses. What more do you need?

Scottish four-piece Three Blind Wolves channel vintage Americana influences, with Parade transporting you to the sleepy towns and vast landscapes of the American frontier.

Matti Jasu describes himself as an unknown singer/songwriter all the way from Finland. That should change as this track, Fingers Crossed, with backing band The Loose Train, is top-notch country rock shot through with some garage rumble and swagger and even manages to wig out in the very best Wilco style at the end. Check out his Bandcamp page here.

SF based Evil Eyes have a pretty neat trippy animated video for Playing With Matches, with hand-drawn illustration and animation by Hayley Akins of the band Dignan Porch, it is a excellent slice of lo-fi psych-rock that is available as a free download from Bandcamp here.

New Animal have produced a wistfully hazy video for their recent single, the woozy slice of sepia-tinged summer pop Falling Up.

The British IBM, formed by retro enthusiast and singer-songwriter Adrian Killens combine nerdy delights – indie rock and vintage computing on their eponymous debut album. The second single from the album, also titled The British IBM has a video featuring comedian/presenter and fellow retro games enthusiast Iain Lee as well as a whole host of props and clothes hoarded from Ebay and charity shops to display that geeky aesthetic.

Joyce The Librarian are a group from Bristol, England. None of them are called Joyce, nor do they work in libraries. Pigeonholed loosely between folk and indie, this is the video for new single released this week, Follow Me I’m Right Behind You.

Unnatural Helpers have taken the apt descriptor “face melting” quite literally with the video for Medication from recent album Land Grab, showing us a vision of post-nuclear fallout and narcotic dependence that’s straight out of Philip K. Dick’s playbook. Only with more riffing.

Lavender Diamond’s sweet indie pop makes a welcome return after a five year hiatus, and Everybody’s Heart’s Breaking Now is the latest single to come from new long player Incorruptible Heart. Watch the ethereal aeriel ballet.

The new EP from Dum Dum Girls, End of Daze, is released today on Sub Pop. This is the video for lead single Lord Knows.

And lastly here is Opposite Sex, a young trio mixing carnival waltzes with no wave and post-punk subversive pop oddness. This video is for Sea Shanty featuring a shoal of animated mackerel pilchards.

It's Round-Up Time Again... Once again we’re deluged from all sides by some top notch tunes. So here is the best of what we’ve picked up via the web and into our in-box recently. Consider a smorgasbord of musical sounds – all you gotta do is take the ones you like. Easy!

First up is a new track from the Dex Romweber Duo. The Death of Me is another fine example of their feral blues mixed with some freewheeling rockabilly guitar licks.

Gloom and doom merchants, Esben & The Witch have returned with a new EP called Hexagons – this is the suitably dark and eerie Hexagons II (The Flight).

Seattle Bound is the new taster from Big Tree’s album This New Year which was officially released a couple of days ago. This is quirky, infectious indie-pop of the finest variety.

A short while ago we posted the video for the Dum Dum Girls track Bedroom Eyes. Now here it is for you in all its glory of 50s jangle and 80s New Wave haughtiness.

Abbie Barrett & The Last Date give us a dreamy, Pink Floydesque ballad in the shape of Draw Me In, a track on their new EP, The Triples Volume 1.

Similarly Annie Williams is no ordinary singer-songwriter either. She wrote and recorded two EPs of decidedly different flavors concurrently – This Mountain and Midnight Window – releasing both on November 15th. While conceptually different, both are rife with Annie’s sense of exploration and equally deserving of your ears.

The Hours are back with an optimistic new single, I Want More. Here’s a radio edit to tempt you.

Forbidden Friends is a new solo project of Thermals frontman Hutch Harris. Forsaking some of the latter’s punky snarl for some bouncier guitar jangle, new single Totally Low is a sub two minute indie-pop gem.

Download Forbidden Friends – Totally Low mp3 (from Totally Low 7″)

And lastly we have the jaunty indie-folk of Rebekah Higgs that matches her sweetly playful vocals to perfection. Gosh, Darn, Damn comes from Odd Fellowship.

Here is the Dum Dum Girls new video for Bedroom Eyes – it is a gorgeous, hazy, tripped out creation from the mind of Sam Macon.

The new album Only In Dreams is out now.

For some reason everywhere we’ve turned recently has brought us into contact with cover songs, so we figured we ought to do our duty and collect the best of them together in one convenient place just for you.
