Round Up

Now that the new year is slowly grinding into gear and starting to pick up some momentum, we are starting to see some really tasty new releases being promoted. Here is our pick of a few new tunes from new records that we are really looking forward to…

First up, we have another gorgeous track from Marissa Nadler’s new album July, and a live taster of the first new record in two years from We Were Promised Jetpacks. The near perfect indie rock of Portland, Oregon’s Rare Monk is well worth checking out, and we have the sonic intensity of Brooklyn two-piece NØMADS to contrast with the vintage, ‘swingadelic’ heady bliss of the brilliantly named Jitterbug Vipers.

Next up is the degenerate raucous rock of Fat White Family’s new single Touch The Leather, and finally (for now) the brilliant Kelley Stoltz has a new single of shimmering psych-pop titled Cross Your Mind backed with The Anarchist In Me – you can stream the latter below.

More From Kelley Stoltz

A short while ago we posted the excellent Kim Chee Taco Man from the forthcoming Kelley Stoltz album Double Exposure via Third Man Records.

Now we have the title track for you and its even catchier if that were possible – that’s two out of two for the album and appetites well and truly whetted!

MM Shorts 423: Kelley Stoltz

We’re loving this Kelley Stoltz track taken from his long overdue new long player Double Exposure, out in September via Third Man Records.

The phenomenally titled Kim Chee Taco Man is breezy, garage pop perfection that just begs to be played over and over. Roll on the album!

San Francisco Compilation: In A Cloud II. In A Cloud was a excellent compilation of San Francisco bands released by Secret Seven Records. Now they have announced In A Cloud II, a new vinyl-only compilation with 13 previously unreleased recordings by some of San Francisco’s finest, which include many MM faves.

Contributors are Vetiver, Ty Segall, Hannah Lew (of Grass Widow), Wymond Miles (of Fresh & Onlys), Chuck Prophet, Lucky Eyes, Will Sprott (of The Mumlers), Sonny & The Sunsets, Paula Frazer, Kelley Stoltz, Bad Backs, Tim Cohen (of Fresh & Onlys), and Papercuts.

With excellent cover art by Simon Evans, these are limited to 850 copies and will be released on the 17th July. It can pre-ordered here.

Unlike most similar releases, this sets the bar high from the outset and then manages to maintain the standards throughout, Have a listen to some of our favourites from the chiming, cascading pastoral folk of Vetiver to the classic country rock of Chuck Prophet and the gently infectious strum of Kelley Stoltz.

New Release Round Up. So many new releases, so little time. Here are a few guaranteed to brighten up a Friday.

Loving this new track, Yatton from Beak> in all its hypnotic, krautrock inspired glory. From a new album due in the summer.

a

In a similar vein, Arc In Round’s self-titled debut LP, being released June 26, by La Société Expéditionnaire, reflects a sensibility garnered from endless hours of studio tracking and hypnotic experimentation – think Stereolab meets Broadcast with the addition of haunting vocals. Download Hallowed here.

a

A couple of tracks from Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros eagerly awaited new record Here. Listen to That’s What’s Up and Fire.

a

The new Bear Driver single is called Enemy and is probably one of the most accessibly poppy moments on their debut album. It still rocks most satisfyingly with some crunchy guitar mind you.

a

Paws bash out infectious garage pop-rock and new EP Misled Youth is released as a limited edition tape with a run of 250. Download the exuberant title track and order from FatCat here.

a

The Tough Shits forthcoming self-titled debut promises to deliver 29 minutes of ramshackle rock so purely balls-to-the-wall you won’t know what hit you. Download Birds (Don’t Get Tired of Flying) and hear the evidence for yourself.

Kelley Stoltz has a new 7″ single on French label Les Disques Steak. Titled Two Imaginary Girls it features songs called Caroline and Marcy. Have a listen (via Finest Kiss).

a

Blasted Canyons are releasing a 12″ called 2nd Place. Taster Holy Geometry is driven by a brilliant needling guitar refrain that is guaranteed to stick with you long after the song has finished.

Download Blasted Canyons – Holy Geometry mp3 (from 2nd Place 12″)

Sun Kil Moon has released another taste from forthcoming album Among The Leaves. That Bird Has A Broken Wing might be the best so far, starkly beautiful.

Finally, we’re loving the military stomp of Michael J Epstein Memorial Library’s new track Faith In Free Part 1 from their Faith In Free EP. It comes across like a brilliantly vicious hybrid of Siouxsie & The Banshees and Sparks.
