Video of the Day

This morning we have the first video from Seapony’s sophomore LP Falling – a reminder of summer shot in Super 8! We also have a live video of Washington Irving’s powerful folk-rock and some dream/drone pop from Brighton based collective Milk & Biscuits.

Wednesday Means Six Of The Best!

Here are six crackerjack new tunes for you. No messing – everyone a winner!

Kicking us off in fine style are the reverb loving, fuzzed up, drone psych specialists Moon Duo with Sleepwalker from the upcoming Circles long player, and the Wavves contribution to the Adult Swim Singles Programme, Hippies Is Punks.

We have some stunning, woozy, heroin-pop brilliance in the shape of the Lollipops, which comes from their new album Pop Narcotics (pay what you want download here), and some scorching garage-psych from Prince Rupert’s Drops with their Pillar To Post taster from forthcoming debut release Run Slow.

The first taste of the new album, Putrifiers II, from Thee Oh Sees was the brilliant Lupine Dominus which somehow sounded like the perfect blend of the Fall, Th’ Faith Healers and Captain Beefheart. The next cut to see the light of day is the two and half minutes of Flood’s New Light. They keep the standard up!

And lastly relatable, economic lyrics, infectious interlocking guitar melodies and nimble basslines are all present and correct on Prove To Me, the second single from Seattle’s dreampop quartet Seapony.

Round Up Time Again.

What with being out at No Direction Home and away with the day job, a whole host of songs have come and gone without us posting them, so we’re remedying that oversight now with this round up of the best from our in-box and around the web.

We have the anthemic Mrs Magician who released their debut album Strange Heaven a couple of months ago. Download There Is No God and listen to the rather provocatively titled I’m Gonna Hangout With The Lesbians Next Door & Drop Acid.

Two Gallants will release their fourth LP The Bloom and the Blight in September, their first since 2007’s self-titled release and comes after a three-year hiatus. The first single Broken Eyes is a lovely slice of indie-folk.

Blonds will release their debut full-length The Bad Ones on August 7th, Run is a thrillingly rousing and compelling first taste.

Seattle’s Seapony have released What You Wanted, the first taste of their forthcoming album Falling, due in September. It is appropriately autumnal offering of their subtly crafted dream-pop.

K-Holes on the other hand are an altogether sleazier proposition with their joyful and raucous gutterball punk – all jagged guitars and tribal beats. Here are a couple of tracks from latest album Dismania.

And keeping up the visceral punk theme are Slug Guts and Ceremony. The former release their third album Playin’ In Time With The Deadbeat and Adult Living is an howling unhinged taster, while the latter have delivered up a rather tasty 60 second cover of the Ramones, which is never a bad thing.

Matthew E. White’s debut album Big Inner is out in August. One Of These Days is a modest, low-key soul-filled cut from the record with a gently tropical feel that makes for a most beguiling combination.

Earlier this week we premiered the excellent new track from Edmund II, this is Riptide an earlier taste from his album Floating Monk.

Laetitia Sadler of Stereolab is releasing another taste of her debut album Silencio, the lengthily titled There Is A Price To Be Paid For Freedom (And It Isn’t Security) is slow, woozy and seductive.

And to finish off we have something a little different from Mike Tyler. He is a celebrated non-academic, post-beat poet and musician and his new single Stuttering Song II is the first to be released in the UK and is taken from his forthcoming sophomore album Erection (out August 20th). Repetitive catchy chords provide the backdrop for his poetically devised (naturally) and hilariously undemanding lyrics.
