Wednesday Means Six Of The Best

Wednesday Means Six Of The Best!

Time for a round up of six more excellent bands and their tunes that have been spinning regularly on the MM virtual turntable.

First out of the blocks are Manchester’s Temple Songs, a 4 piece outfit smashing out brilliantly crafted psychedelic pop tunes – the kind of tracks that you might stumble across on a carefully selected LA Nuggets compilation and wonder how it is of the now. Blending sounds of The Beatles and The Stooges with the likes of Pavement and Deerhunter; their single Passed Caring, backed with Dinosaur Alley is due to be released digitally and on 7″ Vinyl on the 4th July.

Bailout is the new EP from MM faves Little Legend, and paints a picture of the lowly dirtbag with all the embedded grit and garage-rock small town America has to offer. The title track is even based on a time frontman Brandy Tudor was bailed out of jail in Laramie, WY by a girlfriend, though he might have embellished it a little bit…

We previously posted about Detroit Rebellion’s debut EP Fork In The Road, the follow up is more uncompromising, gritty dirt-blues of the very best kind. Some of the Time (Some Other Time) comes from The Detroit Rebellion of ’67 EP and is another slice of classic old-school riffing, distortion and tribal percussion.

Fourth up is Daughn Gibson and a track from his new album Me Moan, which is already picking up plenty of accolades and good press. Our personal favourite from the record (so far) will also be the first proper single from it – Kissin On The Blacktop, which is a slice of freak’s rockabilly underpinned by Gibson’s ominously drawled baritone. Marvellous stuff.

Diarrhea Planet might, quite literally, have a shit name, but fortunately the music is far from fecal. Kids is the latest track to get an airing from their imminent second long-player, I’m Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams. It is their most considered and melodic offering yet.

Lastly, Toronto’s punk/hardcore hybrid METZ are the latest contributors to the free Adult Swim Singles Series with the pulverising Can’t Understand.
