Dean Wareham Mini LP

Dean Wareham Solo Mini LP

Dean Wareham’s Black Postcards is a brutally unflinching, unforgiving, and often unsympathetic self portrait of himself, and of life in cult indie bands Galaxie 500 and then Luna, and needless to say it is one of our favourite music biographies.

So when we discovered Love Is Colder Than Death is the first track to be taken from his first ever solo release – a six-track mini-LP entitled Emancipated Hearts (out November 4 in the UK via Sonic Cathedral), we were more than intrigued.

According to Wareham the song is “about epic journeys and happy returns” and he also took inspiration from children’s nonsense poetry – for the line ‘Cats and mices have their vices’.

Love Is Colder Than Death comes backed with a cover of She Went Walking In The Rain, a song written by Cheval Sombre and Sonic Boom which originally appeared on the former’s 2012 album Mad Love.

Have a listen – we like it a lot.
