Our introduction to Chris Staples came via Dark Side Of The Moon (not a cover of the Pink Floyd classic, but instead an interpretation of it). It was a standout track from his excellent album from last year, American Soft, which in turn has become a long established fave here at MM Towers.
He has now followed this up with a brand new EP on Barsuk Records titled Cheap Shades. It is five more tracks of elegant, stripped back Americana that reveals the rich storytelling at its heart, and even includes a cover of Built To Spill’s Center Of The Universe.
Have a listen to the wonderful title track.
