Portland, Oregon’s Rare Monk have a sound that is both familiar and distinctly their own. With a slew of brand new tracks, Sleep/Attack is their first long player (out 26th February) and a follow up to their excellent Death by Proxy EP (see our original post here). It’s an upbeat and ambitious album that takes inspiration from such diverse concepts as the enormity of the universe to … Continue reading Debut Album From Rare Monk
Last year The Beardy Durfs released two 7” singles, the psychedelic, noisy and chaotic Redhead/Cassette Culture and the gorgeous yet deranged Lunch Box/Ponce. These releases gave the two young ruffians from Copenhagen a reputation for playing severely mangled noise rock that mixes white noise with shimmering beauty. Now the band are back with their first ever full length, A Ton Of Bricks, and their sound … Continue reading The Beardy Durfs To Release A Ton Of Bricks

Alongside his band, the group brings every song to life onstage with their stunning, Jerry Lee Lewis-esque-piano-wrecking experience. Just releasing their newest single, Benny’s a Bum, from the independent film of the same name which won Best Local Film at the Philadelphia Film Festival, the track is … Continue reading Introducing >>> Luke Elliot
Jody Nelson had a busy 2012 with a fantastic EP release from Through the Sparks, production duties on Some Dark Holler’s Hollow Chest, performing on Wooden Wand’s Blood Oaths of the New Blues, and touring and working diligently throughout the year on his own Dorado project. And it is this project that has seriously got our attention – the album Anger, Hunger, Love and the Fear of … Continue reading Mad Mackerel Recommends…Dorado
Tangled Hair / Sweet Sixteen is the AA side debut single from Hampshire trio Wild Smiles, released on Invada Records on 11th March as a limited 7 inch and download. With its huge, jangling riff Tangled Hair is classic surfer-stoner rock, Sweet Sixteen is heavier but equally tuneful. What’s apparent from both tracks is that Wild Smiles make the sort of fuzzy yet melodic rock … Continue reading Introducing >>> Wild Smiles
